A.G. Rålin, Åmål, parlor organ c. 1915. KH 167.

Anders Gustaf Rålin (1842-1906) was born in Ånimskog in the landscape of Dalsland. He was taught carpentry by his father and made his first reed organ at the age of 28 (1870) and started a factory in Ånimskog in 1876. Between 1879 and 1884 he went to America twice to develop his professional knowledge. The A.G. Rålin Reed Organ Factory was established in 1885 (the official year). In the autumn 1892 the factory was moved to the nearby town Åmål. In 1901 a bigger factory was built when also fabrication of pianos started. When in 1918 the marketing and selling company ‘Joint Piano and Reed Organ Factories’ (AB Förenade Piano- och Orgelfabriker) was founded, the Rålin factory was incorporated into this new organization. It remained active until 1935 when the production was moved to Arvika and soon afterwards closed down.

The Åmål factory in 1901 (seen from the backside) is above all known for its reed organs. All types of models from home organs, parlor organs, chapel organs, school organs and half automats to pedal organs with one or more manuals have left this factory.

This parlor organ with a mirror high top is included in the factory catalogues of 1906 and 1916 but, however, differ when it comes to the décor. Our organ is identical with the 1916 catalogue picture and therefore dated to the time around 1915.
